While the brother was testifying over there of how MY Spirit, and how MY MIND has TRANSFORMED him, and is actually TRANSFORMING mankind, I thought of how the adversary-—the mortal mind will try to rise up in opposition, the more persistent MY true Believers are. (“YES FATHER,” came a rallying shout from the Assembly.) -It is indeed wonderful! ms ENEMIES SHALL PRAISE HIM We are rejoicing because every time something rises in opposition, it means another MILLION DOLLARS worth of publicity. You all have been hearing about the many incidents that have" happened in the past, and many individuals who have risen in opposition, with criticism, conflict -and gain-sayings etc., but at this particular time, something has risen for the purpose of giving us some work to do. It is indeed wonderful! It is such a privilege to know where you stand, and stand where you know, to see where you walk, and walk where you see. This is a wonderful privilege. ‘ GOD is moving in the affairs of men, and dealing among them in a way they cannot understand, therefore, Gog and , Magog have gathered themselves togeth- er. to unite against the GREAT GOD, but as true as you have declared that I’ AM ALMIGHTY, if I AM ALMIGHTY, ‘then that which is called mighty, is a The “SPOKEN WORD” partial part. of ME, and I will use it to MY GLORY and to- MY HONOR, that man might learn and see plainly GOD deals in the affairs of men, and none can_ I-IINDER HIM. PEACE EVERYONE: Now remember if the Minutes of the Court say I said I AM not GOD, the Min- utes are a LIAR. A GLANCE Huey Long, familiarly known as the “Kingfish”, is the present storm center of the political scene. In fact, he is a considerable source of agitation into whatever company he enters . both locally and nationally-—both in Louisiana and Washington. Rarely in the history of the nation has a more colorful or dy- namic, (distinctly individual), personality flashed across the political horizon. Beside Huey Long, apparently, other radicals pale into insignificance. Whether a. benefactor or an instrument of the “devil”, as many undoubtedly regard him, he has attracted attention, has stood apart from the crowd, and seems to be fulfilling some sort of a destiny, what- ever it may be. For four years Long was Governor of the state of Louisiana. Today as Sena- tor he has continued to climb the ladder of political fame despite methods some- what unorthodox until he is described at the moment as “the chief radical chal- lenge to the President’s leadership.” He is variously described as a “dictator",' a “menace”, a potential “fascist”, and by many other less appetizing names by his oppon-ents. He has been embroiled in so many hectic encounters that to read of Huey Long on the front page has become commonplace. Recently in Louisiana as a part of the insurrection against what is called his “state dictatorship” state troops were mobilized and violence threat. ,ene . Other than a brief summary of Long's colorful escapades and many-sided activi- ties is not possible here. To describe him generally as “colorful” would be putting it mildly. His meteoric rise to that of a national figure and powerful factor in the political picture is punctuated with siz- zling action. Regardless of party affilia- tions or other considerations it is agreed by the foremost observers that Huey Long will “bear watching." That he looms as an unknown quantity, a potential element to be reckoned with, is conceded. Huey Long, temporarily has supplanted such characters as Upton Sinclair‘ and others in furnishing likely material for magazine articles. His only rival in shar- ing the spotlight is the well known Father Coughlin. Both are see nas definite’ fac- tors in influencing public sentiment. They meet, it is said, on common ground in op- position to President Roosevelt. Some see the extended “depression" as enabling Long to capitalize on the discontent of 70 per cent of the population, still feeling insecure. One outstanding organization, the Epic group in -California, conspicuous in agitating for social justice, sees the Louisiana Senator as one of the greatest tools of “fascism” characterizing his “share the wealth” program as merely a cloak to deceive the people. Raymond Gram Swing in a series of articles in The Nation discusses “The Menace of Huey Long” and pictures him as a real threat to American democracy. But in summarizing his remarks Mr. Swing points out the paradox of Huey Long. It seems much good has accom- panied the fiery Senator’s career. To quote Mr. Swing: “One does not understand the problem AT THE LOUISIANA LAWMAKER By BARRY JACKSON of Huey Long or measure the menace he represents to American democracy until one admits that he has done a vast amount of good for Louisiana. He has this to justify all that is corrupt and peremptory in his methods. He really has been a remarkably competent sur- geon. Taken all in all, I do not know any man who has accomplished so much that I approve of in one state in four years, at the same time that he has done so much that I dislike. It is a thoroughly perplexing, paradoxical record.” ‘A look‘ at the record of Huey Long bears out this assertion. He is described as having reshaped the organism of an archaic state government, centralized it, and made it easy to operate efficiently. Most important of all, the weight of tax- ation which had crippled the poor has been transferred to the shoulders that can bear it. The debt of the state has been increased from $11,000,000 to nearly $150,000,000, the second largest per cap- ita. debt in the United States. This ad- vancement, however, has been financed _in its various stages by new taxation. But the state has benefited from the greater part of the money spent and it's credit has been maintained. at a high level. Standing as a symbol of progress is the new $5,000,000 Statehouse in Baton Rouge, an imposing thirty story building, which has been useful as well as orna- mental. This was constructed in one year during the Long regime. Among his other achievements he has relieved the so-called poor from many taxes, among which is the exemption of all property of $2000. Under this arrange- ment a greater portion of the people of Louisiana will be tax free except for that which they pay on non-necessities and luxuries, (tobacco, liquor, gasoline, etc.).. Another law which has made Long ap- pear as the debtor’s friend has been one postponing the payment of debts under a. two-year moratorium. A system of high- ways and bridges has been laid out which will greatly enhance the state and add to its accessability. Two thousand miles of concrete roads, eleven hundred of asphalt, and thirty-seven hundred of gravel have been built since 1924. according to a re- port. ments has been the remodelling of the school system of the state into one of the best in the nation. Adequate education has been made possible in the poorest of parish-es (counties) through his legisla- tion. The cost of school attendance has been lessened by the providing of free textbooks by the state. This measure was said to have increased school attendance by 15,000. The universities of Louisiana. have been benefited in a progressive way at the instigation of the former Gover- nor and are now flourishing with the finest of facilities and equipment. During the first year of his term as Governor, Huey Long struck at illiteracy, a phase in which Louisiana stood low. Much progress was made in this direc- tion. Federal relief authorities, it is un- derstood, are IIOW carrying on this work. For many years Long has opposed the pub- Further among Long's accomplish- in lic-utility companies and has emerged victorious in many instances. Telephone and pow-er rates have been reduced and if Long’s present plans materialize, will be further reduced. At the present time he is conducting a move to lower elec- tricity rates in New Orleans which are the highest in the country for a city of it’s class. Another bill presented recently by the Southern Senator is one aimed to prevent companies with pension schemes from discharging an employee just be- fore his pension is due, requiring them to pay a portion of the pension in such cases. Among the companies which the “King- fish” has opposed all his political life has been the Standard Oil Company which, in Louisiana, he has recently subjected to an “occupational” tax for refining. oil. Such will cost the oil company a million dollars a year. In spite of the strong opposition and resentment of business men, the measure went through-. Last but not least is remembered Long's reported views and stand against the lynch evil. Conflicting reports of his at- titude on this question have appeared in print but it is generally believed that he is opposed, by declaration, to the practice. ' It will be seen from the foregoing that ‘ Long's “unorthodox” and “blatant” meth- ods have not been without substantial advantages which are acknowledged even by his opponents. Offsetting descriptions of his “bullying and overbearing”, man- ner stands the contradictory evidence of accomplishment. A pastor associate of Long, in charge of the “Share Our Wealth” movement, through which Long aspires to national leadership, has this to say in justification of his alleged dicta- torship: “It is the dictatorship of the surgical theater. The surgeon is recognized as being in charge because he knows. Every- one defers to him for that reason only. The nurses and assistants do what he tells them, asking no questions. They jump at his commands. They are not servile, they believe in the surgeon. They realize he is working for the welfare of the patient." Power, the pastor continues, is neces- sary before the people can be served ef- fectively. Long, he said, believed it ad- visable to yield on a. lesser principle to serve a greater one. Thus, perhaps is seen some inkling into the philosophy of the Louisiana Kingfish, whose rapid rise to the forefront of national affairs is a. buzzing topic of conversation. A glimpse of Long’s position today may be gleaned from the foregoing paragraph taken from Mr. Swing’s account in The Nation: “Now see where he is: he has more power in one state than ever a man in American history; he is stronger than a king. He revels in his triumph and seems to enjoy the job of being dictator.” In conclusion The Nation says. “The man has good works to offer in return for his dictatorship. One needs only to think a moment to realize that without ._, i-—.~—‘-§,~;.-es: .,s;c._—s5=.«<.‘.~91f«x...-.a: c.,— -. ,-.;. . gai 5! gig; , - ‘ 4 . .....-—.._...-..-,-.~......_,..a , ,.-2; ...- - Saturday, March 16, 1935 the good works he would be no menace whatever.” . From the Literary Digest’ comes the following: “Let no one assume Senator Long has merely a. provincial following- A recent visitor to his office saw the morning mail arrive. It happened to be in the approach to the vote on the World Court and just after the Louisiana insurrection against his state dictatorship. By actual count, there were 4,638 pieces of mail. Many of the letters were abusive, but by far the most were ‘with’ him." It was Huey Long who in 1932 was conspicuous in breaking the straw of op- position to Roosevelt in the Chicago con- vention. It was Long and Father Cough- lin who played a big part in influencing public opinion which led to the rejection of the World Court recently, in which issue Long threw his support in opposi- tion to the President. Looking into the future a Digest com- o mentator says: “The ‘Kingfish,’ it is acknowledged has the President at a disadvantage in an appeal for the extreme radical vote of the country. The President, though de- pendent on liberal support, can not with his burden of executive responsibility, match the promises of the Senator from Louisiana. The nearest Senator Long has come in announcing for the Presidency has been his statement that the country will take either his program or him as President." It is believed that Longs objective is not so much to become President him- self as to keep Roosevelt out, according to political onlookers. Long has been quoted as saying that he will be able to hold six states out of the Roosevelt pre- convention column next year and possi- bly in the general election to follow. The latest move of Huey Long in the national capital has been the demand, passed by the United States. Senate last week, for a resolution asking the Interior Department for all data discovered by an investigation affecting James A. Far- ley, Postmaster General and Chairman of the Democratic National Committee. The resolution also asked for data affect- ing a New York builder's supply concern» with which Farley was formerly asso- ciated. Any appraisal of the scrambled political situation must take into account the erratic but productive Mr. .Long. Just where he will fit into the puzzle may not be clear to all at this time but it is evi- dent that he will be “among those pres- ent.” One cannot help but link the career of Huey Long, unconsciously, with that of Upton Sinclair, Father Coughlin, and other “crusaders” who by one expedient or another seem to bring about benefits to the people in opposing great privileged interests. At any rate it is to be expected that such “agitators” of mass sentiment, even when such sentiment is beneficial in nature to the best interests of the people, should be painted in every guise by the vicious brush of criticism, as was the much maligned Mr. Sinclair. There- fore, all the appellations bestowed upon such “storm centers” are not always to be entirely credited. There are those who do not believe the efforts of Long, Coughlin, and others are sincerely designed to benefit the people but are merely a device to gain their confidence that the interests of “a Fascis- tic Wall .Street” maybe served. Time alone _will demonstrate the sincerity or insincerity of their efforts. The future The “SPOKEN WORD” Father Divine Only Hope For Humanity Says Mason in Letter To Lodge 124-A North Hope St., Los Angeles, Calif. March 5, 1935. Mr. William P. Wincher,’ 4885 N. Hermitage Ave., Chicago, Ill. , ' Dear Brother and Worshipful Master: “For me it was, indeed, a great pleas- ure when I received yesterday, with the trestle board of Kilwinning Lodge, No. 311, A. F. & A. M., also the greetings from the Officers of the Lodge» on the 34th anniversary of my being made a Master Mason. I appreciate particularly your signature affixed to the greetings." “It is, of course, impossible for me to be with you in physical form, but I shall surely be with you in spirit. After all, the spiritual presence is what counts the most, for the world is beginningto real- ize that without the spiritual to rule the material there can never be a way _out of the chaos in which it has been plunged as the result of an unchecked expression of human selfishness. Greed, one phase of selfishness, is in particular the cause of the present depression. It is a stern ruler. I have noticed with sadness even how many Masonic Brethren, who should know’ better, bow before this ruler, for- get their obligations to their brethren, and permit the latter to be crushed by the juggernaut of commercial greed.” “In these days of tribulation, it is a acts of Mr. Long will determine his last- ing success or failure, as a public bene- factor. - _ , The great infinite hand which 18 guid- ing the course of government and the ship of state is controlling every move- ment as a puppet show manager manip- ulates his puppets on the stage. Like the pieces in a jig saw puzzle, all fit into their place according to their destiny and spiritual mission. Just where Huey Long will fit in and the calling to which ‘he will adhere, is a matter of conjecture. It is not altogether inconceivable that out of the morass a group of leaders may emerge who will administer the affairs of government, of which Long may be one. In measuring the Longs and others who purport to “lead” the people in the halls of government one can only resort to the highest intuition within; to see beyond the flood of propaganda which is put be- fore the people, and with the eye of spirit discern the true anddeserving. Huey Long-—dicta.tor or public servant? NOTE: In the foregoing article it is endeavored to present a “sketch” or pic- ture of Huey P. Long from the facts available. My attention has lately been directed to Father Divine, and I, too, have come to the conclusion that his acceptance as an example and pattern for our lives is the only way by which mankind will be able to overcome evils of every kind, including social injustice which permits a group of comparatively few persons to profit by their holding the majority of their brethren in bond- age.” “The Officers and Brethren of Kilwin- ning Lodge are invited to test for them- selves the genuineness of Father Divine’s message and mission. I am sure that they cannot conduct such a test without feeling the urge to follow the leadership of this wonderful teacher. LOS ANGELES, Calif., March 9th.-— (FDS)—-—The followers of FATHER DI- VINE in the Los Angeles area will have a new bus, all their own, in which they will flit from Kingdom to Kingdom in the very near future! This news became available today as information was ob- tained of the purchase of a splendid, Yel- low Coach, bus, in excellent condition, for the use of the local FATHER DIVINE PEACE MISSION. The new bus it is said will bear the name of the “PEACE SPECIAL” and is described (see advertisement in this is- sue) as the “FATHER DIVINE PEACE MISSION——Southern California Delega- - tion--—To and From the Personal Body" of GOD.” It is expected that the first transcontinental trip of the Delegation will take place about the 1st of May. In the meantime it is planned to -use the bus in making short trips to the various Kingdoms in and around Los Angeles, and to other Coast points such as San Diego, San Francisco, Oakland, Santa Cruz, Modesto, Fresno, Long Beach, Bald- win Park, Redondo Beach, Rosemead, Hol- lywood, etc. There is great rejoicing among the Children at the prospect of the “Los An- ge1es” bus. This wonderful blessing in the form of 9. Kingdom bus has been long awaited by all and has at last been made a reality by the love of our FATHER DIVINE. Meetings of praise such as have never before been held on- the Pacific Coast are visualized as the bus carries delegations of lively, singing, followers from Kingdom to Kingdom. Finishing touches are at present being put on the new “PEACE SPECIAL,” it is being repainted and put thoroughly in readiness for service. The trip of the Southern California bus to New York in May is certain to be an event of events. The trip will quite possibly take the form of a. national tour, according to in- formation received, and stops will be made at many of the Kingdoms and it is possible that the trip will extend to take in the Northwest. Once more the Rockland Palace rang with the shouts of the People, at the Coming of Father Divine, Tuesday eve- ning, February 26th, and the great Audi- torium that has been the scene of so many triumphant Demonstrations of Father's Power over the Masses, was again the background for an outstanding event in the Work of His Peace Mission on Earth among men. Functioning in the Political World on this occasion, Father was cooperating with the Harlem Political Union and more than one ‘hundred other. organizations seeking a re-apportionment of the Harlem Dis- trict, to give its people a more equitable local representation. The Harlem Political Union had adopted {Father's Plan of approaching this task in a non-racial and a non-partisan man- ner, and Father had contributed His Mighty Support in their prior activities, signing thousands of petitions, appointing a delegation to go to. the State Capital, bringing in the many organizations as one, for the first time in the history of Harlem, and assuring them of Victory, if they would continue to adhere to His Principle. Large as the Rocyland Palace was, an auditorium several times its size would not have accommodated the masses that would have been present long before the doors opened, had Father permitted it. However, not wishing to overcrowd the other Cooperating organizations, Father had announced that there would be ac- commodations for only about two hun- dred of His Followers, and invited only that number. Notwithstanding this announcement, however, thousands of His eager Children went to the Palace, and when the other Organizations had been seated, there still was room for several thousand of them to fill up the house. Among these was a delegation from the Pacific Coast, and the Bus in which they had crossed the continent, was parked outside the build- ing, marked, “FATHER DIVINE’ S PEACE MISSION—-PACIFIC COAST DELEGATION.” Their presence was not- ed in the records of the Meeting, together with credentials from the Secretary of State. otgcalifdmia. and from the Mayor ,,...-r of Los Angeles, the group being a part of the twenty million throughout the world who declare that Father Divine is GOD. The Meeting was about to commence, and the Chairman was at the Microphone, when a great shout arose from the rear of the Auditorium, and the great Audience sprang to its feet in a mighty demonstra- tion, as Father entered Personally, fol- lowed by His Immediate Staff, proceeding up the aisle in the midst of great rejoic- ing, to the Rostrum where the name of the Harlem Political Union shone in var- ious colored lights. Here, He was received by the Officers of the Political Union, Mr. Alan L. Dingle, and Mr. John M. Royal. With His usual inexpressible Sweetness, Humility, and Meekness--holding the suc- cess or failure of the Meeting in the Hollow of His Hand, and with the Masses ready to obey His slightest Command, Father took a rear seat, behind the Min- isters, Leaders, Politicians, and others, and looked out over the vast Audience where scores of large white shields indi- cating the presence of delegations of Churches, Fraternities, Legal, Political, and Civic Organizations, appeared side by side with that of Father Divine’s Peace Mission, whose delegation spread out fill- ing all spaces, and uniting all organiza- tions together in one solid mass. Many of the larger churches were rep- resented by delegations, and their Pas- tors were on the same Rostrum with Fa- ther—something most of ' the Ministers had tried to avoid in the past, while at- tempting to ignore Him—but that was no longer possible. Among the Pastors who spoke, were Dr. L, H. King, of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Dr. J. W. Brown of Mother A.M.E. Zion Church, and Father Mulvoy of St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church, while the Choir of Mother Zion Church rendered its services in the sing- ing. It might have been expected that in an Audience so everwhelminglyiof Father Di- vine, some mention of His Activities would have been made by these Speakers, but not so——it took the Political Leaders such as the Acting Leader of the 21st Assem- bly District, Hon. Mr. Congdon, the Grand Exalted Ruler of Elkdom, Mr. J. Finley Wilson, and the Local Leader of the Com- munist Party, the Hon. James W. Ford-— to extend that courtesy. For almost four hours, Father sat pa- tiently and listened, while Speaker after Speaker was called to the microphone, out- lining Harlem's situation and referring to what had been done in the past, by many of a so-called race, and the Audience, waiting only to hear Father Speak, re- mamed in perfect control at a gesture’ from Him. _ With His usual consideration and service to others, Father had agreed to wait until the last to speak, because it was felt that after He spoke, the Meeting would break up, That was ostensibly the rea- son, but in reality it gave other speakers and organizations who did not with to hear Him speak, time to depart before He was called upon. At the last, the delay became unreason- able, when a financial statement was read aftermidnight, including a long list of the names of those who had already contri- buted-—-and Father arose to leave. Quick- ly, the Chairman implored Him to stay, saying that he had been just about to call upon Him, and Father waited. Then. He E addressed the waiting audience and the remaining speakers, including one or two Ministers, as follows: “PEACE MR. CHAIRMAN, and PEACE to the COOPERTING ORGANIZATIONS: I rise at this juncture, in obeisance to the command of your honored chairman. The time is well expired, and as I know the cooperating organization—-there are a few really enjoy My Presence, while on the other hand there may be some, quite a. number of them, desire to see and know of My being the last Speaker, that they might get out of My Presence. (A great shout went up from the Believers.) PEACE EVERYONE! But with or without the organizations, I HAVE THE MASSES, and you will do what I say, will you not? (“YES FATHER!” came a mighty response from thousands.) THE LOOKED FOR IS HERE Therefore I am delighted to be here, to represent the Fundamenetal Principle of Life—not a. race, neither, a creed nor a color, but as a Representative of the Spirit and Life that controls the mind of men, and dictates to them, and tells them to do right. For this cause I came, and for this purpose I stand, sponsoring this Peace Mission on Earth among men. As the Political Union, I came to bring all organizations together. As a psychologi- cal point of view for your consideration, watch the masses as they gather around Me. Watch the adherence to My Message, to My Will, and to My Good Pleasure. My Believers, My Followers, they WILL v ,1 v 1 . I M .\ r V. _. ::', 5.‘- 2: . 5.‘ 7-» -. « -..—r' . l . . I Page 10 obey Me. I came to .make the Political Union, and this particular lssue——a suc- cess, "and I will do it with or without My Personal Presence, it is immaterial to Me, the Spirit of My Presence is suffici- ent——it will accomplish that for which I came, with or without My Personal Pres- ence, for it is the reincarnation of some- thing you have been looking for. As an Advocator of the great Emanci- pator, and as an Emphasizer of the same, I came to Emancipate Harlem of its poli- tical bondage-—free you, give you the freedom every other community has, or that all of the other communities have, whichever. That is My endeavor, and that is why I can say as I have often said- ‘Here you are and there I am.’ I would like to say to the Political Union——‘There you sit and here I stand.’ Transpose the version--‘There I sit, and here you stand.’ (A great demonstration of enthusiasm from the audience followed.) GIVING “ACCORDING , TO THE GOSPEL” PEACE EVERYONE! I would like to say a Word in reference to the Father Divine Peace Mission, in reference to con- tribution. My Representatives, My Fol- lowers, and practically all that cooperate with Me, they are endeavoring to live Evangelically. We are all supposed to be intelligent people to some degree. We all know what Evangelical means—Evangel- ical means, _‘According to the Gospel..’ According to the Gospel we are told——- ‘When you do your alms, do not sound a trumpet, that you might be seen and heard of men.’ If I as an Individual, can contribute to this Union without being heard or seen, I will dot it. Beloved ones, it My Name must be read out when I have contributed, I cannot Work effective- ly, Evangelically. That is why My Fellow- ers, this Evening, could not so freely con- tribute financially as they would do-—if they could come and do it ‘unknowingly’ and unseen, according to the Gospel, for that is the Mission for which I came. DONE IN SECRET—— REWARDED OPENLY While the Chairman was calling out the different organizations, what they had contributed, and the different individuals, What they had contributed, I ‘rejoiced be- cause he did not mention any activity or aCti0n Of Mine as a Person. ‘When you do your aims, do not sound a trumpet, but do it ‘in secret, and He that seeth’ in secret, shall reward you openly.’ Do you not see, I am rewarded? I have limitless re- sou'rces of supply, financially, socially, and otherwise, and it all comes through and by living Evangelically. I have the Keys to the hearts and minds of men, and they will follow Me. The conscious mentality of all of humanity has been ha;-. The “SPOKEN wonn" nessed--their energies have been harness- ed, and I will control» them in an Evan- _ gelical and also in a legitimate and poli- tical way of Righteousness. That is why I present. to you this or- ganization as a Participator and an En- dorser whole-heartedly, of your organiza- tion, the Harlem Political_ Union. If I could have been free to contribute to you this evening in regard to turning out, why I could and would have filled» every space in this auditorium, but I said to My Followers, I announced it two or three times-—we will have accommodation for two hundred for there are eighty odd dif- ferent organizations, and we do not feel as if we would be doing justice, to crowd them out. If I would have allowed My Followers to come, there would not have been a space for one to stand-—butg as a Cooperator and Participator with, this or- ganization in what it is endeavoring, I refrained fromgallowing My Followers to turn out as they should, or could, or would, if I could have been free to cooper- ate with this Organization, wholehearted- ly. I could not do it! It is wonderful! N0 succnss WITHOUT eon This is ‘a psychological point for con- sideration. Even though I refrain from putting in My -Personal appearance, the psychological_ Thought of Mine, will go forth into expression, and shall be estab- lished in the consciousness of the people. I need not appear Personally! There may be a thought with some of the Organiza- tions-—‘If we could» keep Father Divine out of the issue.’ -If you do not have Me, you will not have the masses. I will make anything a success, it matters not what it is, it makes no difference to Me. I am Well, Healthy, Joyful, Peaceful, ‘Lively, Loving, Successful. Prosperous, and Happy, and I produce these qualities wheresoever I am., and I will help man- kind to be the same. IMMANUEL Why should you be a failure, ‘If GOD is for you who can be against you?’ A Word for the Reapportionment District! We will have it, and every other Bill that this Organization, the Political Union, presents, so long as it is Evangelical, so long as it is according to the Fundamen- tal that I am advocating. If I endorse it, we will put it through. Oh it is such a privilege to live in the Consciousness of GGOD’S Presence continually, realizing as I so often say, the great Mission of Christ on Earth among men, was to con- vince mankind that -GOD was present with them. ‘His Name shall be called Immanuel, being interpreted, GOD is with us.’ The Government is upon His Shoul. der. NOT RECEIVED BY HIS OWN I need not say more, as the time is well expired. I know there are those of My Followers here, a few of them tonight, that would be willing to stay all night if I would be here. I am willing to use this machinery for the common good of humanity, and I can heartily endorse the Political Union. to THEM. (Another mighty shout went up from the great audience.) PEACE EVERYONE! It is written--‘He came unto His Own and His Own received Him- not.’ As being termed Religion, and at Religious Movement, the so-called Church- es, the majority of them, received Me not. Now jot these Thoughts down in your vocabularise, for you have something to think about—-something that is coming from the Insigificant, the Unlearned, and Ignorant, but the Oone that has the _Pow- er. At this recognition, every knee must bow, ‘every tongue must confess, and they all must come to the recognition of this that I am advocating, and ‘they all must come together even as I am—-—One with all Nations, One with all Races, knowing no creed or color, for such has been your destruction. ONE FOR ALL- ALL FOR ONE In conclusion I would like to say- I thought for consideration, Doctor King and the Honorable -Mr. Ford had said enough, for Me as an Individual to‘re- frain from speaking, completely. Even though Do._ctor King has been called out by some means, I can heartily endorse ninety per cent of his speech to be the Ideal of Truth for which I stand--one" for all, and all for one. That is the mys- tery, and the time has truly come, man- kind will see there is no other Hope of Salvation--not for the Political World, for your economic condition, fo'r your so- cial and civil equal rights, or for your free- dom. Your only Hope is to come together as one man, as the Political Union is rep- resenting this Princlple. Universal Brotherhood, abolishing seg- regation, and disrecognizing races, creeds, and colors among them. For this cause, there I sit, and here you stand. I am One with you, and you are one with Me, if you will but let it be. non THE common GOOD or‘ HUMANITY I am‘ sorry to have detained you, but as the Spirit of My Zeal was sti'rred I refrained from speaking, and I desired to hold the people together for the bene- fit of the Union, and I am willing to con- tinue to endorse it, so long as they will allow Me to, but remember, it would be a good step for the Union to permit Me to transmit ‘My Blessings as I have them, without any 1 individual knowing from whence they are coming. The Word says-—,-‘The wind bloweth where it listeth, and you hear the sound thereof, but you cannot tell whence it cometh or whither it goeth; so is everyone that is born of GOD.’ You can see the Spirit of My Pres- ence, and the Presence of My Spirit func- tioning, but I am not seeking to be seen nor heard as a Person. Although we will have a Reapportionment District in real- ity, I have not the slightest Thought of Myself, neither any other Representative connected with My immediate movement as it may be termed, to be elected, nei- ther to run as at Candiadte for any Offi- cial duty. For the commond good of hu- manity, I stand. It_ is -immaterial to-Me what individual may fill the Office of Con- gressman, Senator, yea even Governor, or President of the United States, so long as that person will deal justly, and do right to all mankind. PHYSICAL EMANCIPATION GIFT OF GOD I would like to say a Word for what the Spirit of GOD has done for you, in bring- ing about your Emancipation from your physical slavery about seventy years ago. Old John Brown's body~—hi's body was not sufficient, neither was it efficient to ac- complish his mission, but as he passed on in body, his spirit went marching on. It goes to show you, Spirit is not confined to matter, it is not confined to race, nor creed, _nor color, but the Spiirt of true Emancipation condescended to come through John Brown, and -was transmitted and ‘reincarnated in others, to bring about your physical emancipation. Therefore ‘it was not a race, nor a creed, nor a color ——it was -Spirit and it was Power, that was GOD Almighty. It came through John Brown it is true, but it was not con- fined to him as a race, as a color, as a creed, for when he ceased to function as The “SPOKEN worm" an individual, the Spirit of his mission wa. t'ransmitted, reincarnated ,and it went marching on. SPIRIT REINCARNATION Jot these Thoughts ‘down in your vocab- ularies. The ‘reincarnation of the Funda- mental of Life through all of the Poli- ticians and Statesmen of our past Genera- tions, is [being reincarnated daily in the hearts and lives of men, and it is not confined to a race, nor a creed, nor a color, it is subject to the person that will deal justly and do that which is Just, and Right, and GOOD. Truly mighthave the Spirit said-—‘Not by power, nor by might, but by My Spirit, says The Lord.’ This is the Mission of that which is termed iMne. It is not confined to Me as a Per- son-— it is immaterial to Me whether I function in this Body or not, My Work shall go on, and ON, AND ON, and none shall hinder Me. It is just as reincar- natable as it is transmittable, and it is just as transmittable as it is reincarnat- able. The same quality, and the same Fundamental, can be Reincarnated in each and every individual, if they will bring thei'r bodies into subjection and live ac- cordingly. I Thank you.” (As Father concluded,‘ the Chairman spoke a few words to Him, and Father addressed the Audience that had begun to move out, as follows:) “PEACE EVERYONE!” “In accord with My Message, I believe the Union, and the President himself will endorse it, if ‘you desire to contribute to the Union-—you can send your contribu- tions to the Union, to the President him- self, without your names and without your addresses, that GOD Alone might have the Glory, and not another.” DIVINE ACTIVITIES IN BAY DISTRICT . - Oakland, August 4, 1935. This amazing decrease in crime the Judge attributed directly to the influence of the FATHERADIVINE Missions in the neighborhood. (By GLOR ° ' C Los ANGELES, Ca.lif., Feb. 9. (FDS)—- ; It is indeed Wonderful the way GOD IS WORKING in the hearts and minds of men. Though many are unconscious of the actual tangible Presence of God, yet we behold “signs” all along the way re- vealing to us that GOD IS WORKING, and that many are awakening to “THE NEW DAY.” —. Riding along through the east-side of the City I noticed recently a great many Christ Missions, Mid-Night Missions, and Rescue Missions, located on one of the busiest traffic thorough fares. One thing in particular caught my attention,-this was the display of “signs” placed in the windows, over the doors, and printed in bright colors on the faded awnings. Some of these read,———“DO NOT STEAL OR BEG, COME TO US,”——“WINTER IS GONE, SUMMER IS HERE/’——“THE FIELDS ARE WHITE TO HARVEST.” Through these statements I could‘ see but one thing, and that was that GOD IS WORKING. Within myself I could truly say, I know, “Winter Is Gone and Summer Is Here,”—-for I know GOD IS HERE. I also realized that some in that little “Mission” were awaking to the dawn of “THE NEW DAY,” and were LET- TING THEIR LIGHTS SO SHINE. IT IS WONDERFUL. The ONE ETERNAL LIGHT shining in the many,——a1l work- ing for the ONE PRINCIPLE, all GLORI- FYING THE ONE FATHER. ALL FOR GOD, AND GOD FOR ALL. The Fields are white and the Harvest is HERE. The HARVEST is being reaped TODAY. On all sides we behold GOD AT WORK. The LAW of GOD is WORK- . ING and GOD ALONE IS REIGNING. SOMETHING IS HAPPENING-—SOME- THING IS WORKING, and the whole world knows and feels THAT SOME- THING IS AT HAND. K This is the DAY OF REJOICING, MAKING MERRY, and giving THANKS AND PRAISE unto GOD OUR FATHER, and it fills my heart with a glorious joy, and inspiration to behold the “signs" along the way. WASHINGTON, Jan. 30th—-—If one were to examine the Treasury's balance sheet it is doubtful if they would find any entry covering “guilty consci-ence.” And yet this state of mind has been respon- sible for bringing to the government $617,576.41. One Of the. most interesting files in government archives contains “Document 126,420”-—five inches or more in thickness and dating back to 1811. Known by many as the “conscience fund" these records nevertheless appear under the classifica- tion of “miscellaneous receipts.” Remittances come usually anonymously from persons who at some time or other defrauded, or in some way deceived, the government. Ranging in contributions from a. one-cent stamp to $80,000, the fund is 122 years old. Each year since 1827, with the one exception of 1848, the contributions have come in. Disclosed as the impelling motive be-A hind most contributions and payments was religion. Invariably the conscience of the guilty one would bother him. One letter inspired by religion follows: “Since becoming a Christian I am duly impressed to restore a postage stamp which I used once. It had served its pur- pose once but seemed not to have been cancelled much, if at all. Nevertheless I used it as I was at the time very much in need of one. “I am restoring it four-fold and trust I am forgiven for using it. I haven't been guilty of it any more. “May the Lord bless each one and save our souls.” (Editor’s Note) In this modern day FATHER DIVINE more directly inspires such actions of hon- esty as appear in the foregoing article. Merchandising establishments, stores, of- fices, landlords, etc., and others are amazed not infrequently to receive amounts owed them for years and which they had abandoned all hope of getting, by followers having contacted the Spirit of FATHER DIVINE. —- A.D.F.D. — NOTICE The “SPOKEN WORD” is open to suggestions of a constructive nature which in any way will increase its ser- vice or effectiveness. I predict those self-same pens will speed- ily force 218 congressmen to sign the pe- tition which will enable our plan to be brought up for vote.” In the meantime in the national capital the long awaited petition to force a house vote on the pension plan was filed. Merriam last night in a statewide radio talk was seen as giving impetus to the widely discussed pension plan. In an unqualified endorsement the California Governor expressed approval of Dr. Townsend's plan as an ideal one for providing old age relief. He advocated national adoption of the plan and said further that he would recommend that the state legislature adopt resolutions “calling upon congress to approve the basic principles of the Townsend plan in any program to be formulated by the federal government." Governor Merriam summarized his remarks as follows: “Whatever the immediate outcome may be it is certain that an aroused public opinion will demand enactment of federal and state legislation adequately meeting the problem which Dr. Townsend has un- dertaken to solve.” Governor Merriam’s endorsement of the Townsend plan was believed by many to be the beginning of a march of states to urge national adoption of the plan. A startling and “different” picture called “Sequoia” filmed in the giant red- woods of Sequoia National Park, is re- vealing many unknown secrets of - the American Forests. For the first time re- _corded the laws of nature are defied. This picture depicts a revolt against man made laws and opinions. The theme of the story brings forth the great friendship of a baby lion and fawn, growing up together in perfect harmony. Later they are released in the open spaces and after some time meet again. When the two animals meet, the natural in- stincts arise-——the lion naturally ready to spring on his prey--the deer stunned with fear—-suddenly their eyes meet and an un- derstanding “something” takes place be- tween them and they come together in their friendly way as of old. At one point Huey asserted that the American people wouldn't stand for Roosevelt policies that’ had “failed to provide jobs for the job- less and food for the starving.” “And you can take my word for that,” - he shouted. A. Madison Page '15 i The Banquet Table, 20 West 115th St., New York City, Sunday, -February 24th, 1935, 4:30 P. M. At. a recent Political Meeting in Harlem, the story was told by a Leader of one of the Political Organizations, of how in the last Election he had called at a certain home and spent a half- hour, vainly trying to persuade the householder to register and vote. He -left the home disappointed, but was agreeably sur- prised a few days later, to find the householder and his com- panion both in the registration booth, registering. He greeted them,‘ and said he was glad they had changed their opinion about voting, as a result of his visit, but the woman quickly replied, ‘Oh it is not on account of anything YOU said, but our Pastor told us to Register, and we are doing so.’ This was his version of her reply, quoted before a number of Ministers, whom he wanted to impress with their duty to urge their members to register and vote,-—'but in the large Audience which he was addressing, the majority knew, the Pastor referred to was none other than Father Divine. Such is but one instance out_ of thousands, in a District where as the Speaker stated, only twenty per cent of the population goes to the polls, and it was only one out of hun- dreds of thousands, and even millions throughout the Land, who have not votedein the past but _will do so in the future, through the influence of Father Divine. People throughout the Land, who could not be prevailed upon by any means, to vote or take an interest in Politics, and the masses who are not citizens, together with millions who voted, but did so uninte1ligently,—-are being preparedlto vote with a purpose, and that purpose, Righteous Govern- ment. . Thus, a’ vast Army of Peace and Righteousness, destined to be the most powerful Political Organization in the World, is forming behind Him Who has Control of the Masses, and Who also has the Control of Governments with or without the mas- ses,——having been recognized by twenty million the World over, as GOD Almighty in Bodily Form. Though Organizations are not essential to His Reign,-for the benefit of the people, He has condescended to allow cer- tain Organizations and Activities to be established among His Believers, as -part of the Work of Father Divine’s Peace Mis- sion, for the purpose of helping the people to participate in Righteous Government; An idea of these Activities can be had from one of the announcements at His New York City Head- quarters, Sunday, February 24th, when a Representative in the Legal Field made the following announcement: “Peace Everybody! Permit me to make an announcement. Tomorrow night, from eight to nine, we will be at the 126th Street Extension, for the purpose of giving instruction there, in Citizenship. As it has been stated, this part of the Service is only one part». Father has told us that He is functioning, not only in Religion, but in all the affairs of men. The most funda- mental affairs, are Governmental affairs, and we are out now, to establish a Righteous Government. The only way to estab- lish a Righteous Government, is to get those who are ‘inter- ested in Righteousness to get interested in a Government Pro- gram, so we will be at the other Extensions of the Kingdom for the purpose of letting the others know what it is all about. Those of_ you who have taken the course in Citizenship and Registration, and are qualified to give it out to the Public, please join us at 126th Street tomorrow night, Tuesday night, and Wednesday night, from eight to nine,——and tomorrow after- noon from four to five we will be upstairs in the Auditorium, for the purpose of continuing our instruction course, and the Public are welcome to listen in. We want to add to our num- ber. We want to train some for the voting booths, and we want you to understand what is necessary to register in this State. In order to be qualified, you can attend our instruc- tion Meetings. - Now we do not want anyone to attempt to enter into Regis- tration, who does not know what it is all about, so if you are interested enough to see that the Work is carried on properly, join us at four o’c1ock tomorrow afternoon, and we have three afternoons for that,—-Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. As I said before, We don’t pick anyone for this work, no more than for any other part of the Work. You just come in if you desire, and stick. Of course we will have to have a. little different regulation, because many can sing together, but when you are talking, only one can talk at a time. We expect to have one of our Assemblymen with us late tonight at the Banquet. He has other engagements, but said he would try to get here around eleven. I think he is _coming from the Twenty-first Assembly District. We would like to have all of the Workers from the Twenty-first District hear and see what your Aseemblyman has to say. He is going to speak on the work of an Assemblyman at Albany. All who are interested, should try to be‘ here to hear him. Of course‘ if you do not hear him We will have others from time to time, but we want you to know about this Righteous Government which must come now on the Face of the Earth. Even before the last Presidential Election, we heard it said that if by chance one should get into Office that did not stand for the Right, and for Equality, and for the Constitution of the United Stat-es,—-even though he got in, Father would get him out, and you have heard Him State that He is functioning through bodies. Now that means, if it takes ten million votes to get him out, we will have them». I trust that each and . everyone will become imbued with the Spirit of Righteous Government, and view Politics, not from viewpoint of greed, and graft, and trickery, as we have heretofore, but as some- thing that is as clean and Righteous, as any phase of life. I thank you.” A ‘End War,’ Pleads Steel Head‘ Eugene Grace, above, President of The Bethlehemsteel Corporation. - Read FATHER DIYINFKS Messages in The “SPOKEN WORD’?
