Description: Post card view, early 1900s, of Middle Amana. This view is from the watch tower at the woolen mill, looking west and shows the terraces on the steep hillside below the village.
Description: Post card black and white photograph; Postmarked Amana, September 3, 1906. Sent from W.F. Moershel (1867-1939) of Amana to Henrietta F. Moershel in Homestead. Back of card has written notation "Old Mill Race flowing north to print works." This branch of the mill race was abandoned and filled in during the 1940s.
Description: Almost certainly the work of Jacob F. Selzer (1888-1917). The individual in the photo are members of the George Selzer family of Carroll, Iowa. A former member of the Amana Society, Selzer and his family were visiting relatives in Homestead. Wonderful picture of oxen and cart.
Description: Postcard of children working in an onion field by Main Amana with the school pine grove (Schulwald) in the background. Circa 1915, possibly photographed by F. William Miller (1876-1952).
Description: Portrait of Emma Beck standing inside a grape vine covered arbor near her family home in the village of Homestead. Fence in background is wire on wooden frame and Beck is dressed in a dress that, while dark and somewhat plain, clearly shows the outside influences creeping into the community around the late 1910s when this image was taken, probably by Jacob F. Selzer (1888-1917).
Description: Shows north facade of Dr. William Moershel house in Homestead. Postcard, ca. 1906, never mailed. Back of card has a penciled notation identifying the house (made by Peter Hoehnle). Photo dates from circa 1910.
Description: Frame house with family of six grouped around entrance. Woman in black is probably Martha Hergert Schaedlich (1878-1950), who was the kitchen boss. Picture probably the work of Jacob Selzer. (A really good example of a typical Amana house faade)
Description: Never sent. Back of card has inscription "School children planting onions in Amana" made in pen, by Marie Selzer (1916-1999). Amana pine grove (Schulwald) visible in the background.
Description: Postcard - intended for public use. This card has a printed title. It is unused. The scene is the long row of maple trees between the two sections of the village of Homestead, with the village orchard visible behind. Dirt road, telephone poles and a house are visible. Ca. 1915 Jacob F. Selzer (1888-1917) probable photographer.
Description: No date, but early 1900s. My guess is taken at Homestead. Back has pencil inscription: "Liquid Manure water & honey wagon." I believe that this wagon was used when they cleaned out outhouses.
Description: Post card of Temple Square, Salt Lake City, Utah sent in 1913 by George Schudt to Dr. Wm Moershel in Homestead. Note on reverse in German script. Unusual Amana/Mormon item. Card was mailed in Los Angles and has a fold down middle.
