Title: Dredge boat
Notes: Description: Very clear 8 X 10 print of the dredge boat on the mill race at Amana. Taken from upper level of the flour mill elevator building. Focus is sharp on the boat, less distinct on the houses in the background. This is a modern print from the original glass plate. One of a series of experimental prints that I worked with a good friend to make in the 1990s. Not historic but an interesting image none the less.

Notes: Description: The vantage point for this photograph was probably the Amana Flour Mill. The scene is looking to the west and shows the main channel of the mill race, as well as the side channel (since filled in) that led to the Calico Mill. Photograph dates from circa 1910.

Notes: Description: Photograph of Amana Pharmacy before 1900 (Dentist Office, built that year, is not present in photograph). I would date this to the late 1890s, because the windmill behind the pharmacy is not visible, and we believe that it was removed in the early 1890s. Image is 3 X 4 and mounted on a gilt edged piece of card stock 4 1/8 X 5 1/8. $100.

Title: Eichacker family picnic in Amana Picnic Grove
Notes: Description: Family group (father, mother, son and daughter) having a picnic in the Amana pine grove. The family is that of John Eichacker, Sr. (1882-1935)who was later the President of the Amana reorganization committee. Eichacker was a photographer and this may be a self-portrait.

Title: Graf (later Moser) Kitchen house, Amana, Iowa
Notes: Description: Photograph of the Graf Kitchen House- Amana, Iowa. This building was constructed in 1872 as a kitchen house serving residents of the village of Amana. It is unusual in that two walls of the structure are built of dressed stone bought from an Iowa City quarry. This kitchen was under the management of the Graf family for some time. It stands opposite the Amana Woolen Mill.

Notes: Description: This is a hand colored early postcard that actually was used as such. It was sent by Carl Zimmermann to Wilhelm Moershel, who was one of the Society's traveling salesmen, care of a hotel in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on May 12, 1909. The building at right dates to c. 1860 and housed the lower grades, the building at left dates to circa 1870 and housed the upper grades. Today it is part of the Amana Heritage Museum, and houses the office of the Amana Heritage Society and the Communal Studies Association.

Notes: Description: Commerical post card. Post card printed in Germany for sale in the Amana general stores, around 1900. The two buildings pictured were housed the Amana village school. The building on the right (constructed c. 1860) was for the lower grades, while the building on the left (constructed 1870) housed the upper grades. This structure later became the Amana Post Office and is now the headquarters for the Amana Heritage Society and the Communal Studies Association.

Title: Greetings from Amana, Iowa
Notes: Description: A commercially produced post card that would have been available to visitors to the Amanas at the turn of the century. Shows the main buildings of the Amana Woolen Mill. The building at left is the weaving building, the only structure to survive a disastrous 1923 fire intact. This structure was built in two parts in 1891 and 1908, still stands and is still (2012) used for woolen production. No marks on reverse, but one corner has a fold. Postcard, hand colored.
