Description: Early 1900 view of the Lauer Saal, a portion of the Main Amana Meeting House and some homes, taken from an upper level of the Amana General Store. The focus on this image is not overly sharp. The Lauer Saal, which burned in the 1930s, was the original, 1856 meeting house for the village. After the new meeting house was built in 1864, this building became an evening prayer service location. Image is 3 1/4 X 4 1/8 mounted on an embossed card that is 4 1/4 X 5 1/2.

Description: This image shows the Middle Amana Woolen Mill and is a modern (c 1970s) print from an original glass plate negative, taken circa 1900. The smokestack is the only visible feature still standing today (2012). This location became the site of Amana Refrigeration, and is now the location of Whirlpool - Amana Products Division.

Description: Somewhat overexposed view of the Moershel residence in Amana with fence, grape trellis and other traditional features. View was taken around 1901 when the brick addition was made to this house. The stone portion of the house (at left) was built in 1858 and was originally the home of Wilhelm Moershel (1794 - 1862) a leading figure in the Ebenezer and Amana Societies.

About twenty boys, most of them wearing straw hats, are seen on the main street in Amana, between the Moershel Kitchen House and the general store. View was taken from approximately in front of what is today the Ox Yoke Inn. In the distance, farther up the street, a group of girls is following the boys at a distance. Also visible in the background is the Noe House Building of the Amana Heritage Museum. I have the original glass plate for this image. This print is probably from the 1910s or 1920s. The dimensions are 3 1/4 X 5. I printed an 8 X 10 enlargement from the plate some years ago.

Description: This is an unusual view looking west from the village of Amana. It was likely made around 1900. Visible is the low hedge of evergreens around the cemetery, the enormous kitchen garden, and in almost the center of the image, the last remaining conifer tree marking the location of Joseph Prestele's (1797-1867) botanical specimen garden.
