Description: Postcard of children working in an onion field by Main Amana with the school pine grove (Schulwald) in the background. Circa 1915, possibly photographed by F. William Miller (1876-1952).
Description: Portrait of Emma Beck standing inside a grape vine covered arbor near her family home in the village of Homestead. Fence in background is wire on wooden frame and Beck is dressed in a dress that, while dark and somewhat plain, clearly shows the outside influences creeping into the community around the late 1910s when this image was taken, probably by Jacob F. Selzer (1888-1917).
Description: Shows north facade of Dr. William Moershel house in Homestead. Postcard, ca. 1906, never mailed. Back of card has a penciled notation identifying the house (made by Peter Hoehnle). Photo dates from circa 1910.
Description: This shows three prominent buildings still standing from the Ebenezer Society period. The photograph was made by Fred Oehl around 1900 prior to extensive later modifications of these buildings. From left they are the Trautmann kitchen and church room, the oil mill and the home of Joseph Prestele, Sr. (Oil mill has since been demolished, and the two homes have been heavily remodeled)
Description: Frame house with family of six grouped around entrance. Woman in black is probably Martha Hergert Schaedlich (1878-1950), who was the kitchen boss. Picture probably the work of Jacob Selzer. (A really good example of a typical Amana house faade)
Description: Small sepia image of the Amana school buildings, ca. 1890s. This view is of the east elevations of the buildings, and is taken from the street. A board sidewalk, wood board fence, and other features are visible. The image is 3 1/4 X 2 and mounted on an embossed cream card that is 4 X 5. The image is dark. Back of the card is marked "School House A".
Description: Group of school boys headed down Main Street in Amana, presumably from the school to a church service or outing. About twenty boys, most of them wearing straw hats, are seen on the main street in Amana, between the Moershel Kitchen House and the general store. View was taken from approximately in front of what is today the Ox Yoke Inn. In the distance, farther up the street, a group of girls is following the boys at a distance. Also visible in the background is the Noe House Building of the Amana Heritage Museum. I have the original glass plate for this image. This print is probably from the 1910s or 1920s. The dimensions are 3 1/4 X 5. I printed an 8 X 10 enlargement from the plate some years ago.
Description: School children shown walking from Amana school buildings (not visible) on way to church. Shows the Moershel and Dietrich residences and the General Store annex. Taken c. 1900.
Description: Never sent. Back of card has inscription "School children planting onions in Amana" made in pen, by Marie Selzer (1916-1999). Amana pine grove (Schulwald) visible in the background.
Description: Postcard - intended for public use. This card has a printed title. It is unused. The scene is the long row of maple trees between the two sections of the village of Homestead, with the village orchard visible behind. Dirt road, telephone poles and a house are visible. Ca. 1915 Jacob F. Selzer (1888-1917) probable photographer.
Description: 19) Portrait of Sophie Mertz (1839-1929). Extraordinarily clear image of an elderly seated Amana woman with calico apron, shawl and dress and cap. Identified on back by Peter Stuck, print likely dates from 1920s or 1930s. 3 X 4 7/8. $50.
